Youth Sports in the US is a $55+B market that is hiding in plain sight. This perspective attempts to organize and demystify the landscape.

The Youth Sports Industrial Complex

Methodology & Notes To Research

  • All Estimates are based on an annual time period unless explicitly stated otherwise.
  • Estimates are arrived at using assumptions either:
    1. Sourced directly from 3rd parties (Top Down).
    2. Calculated using broadly sourced assumptions.
    3. Derived from a one account methodology applying extrapolation to available unit economics (Bottom Up).
  • Drivers used to build models within case studies or in the one account model are derived from the direct personal experience of the author or from generally available factual statements made by participants in the marketplace (parents, coaches, club owners, vendors etc).
  • Many of these segments share overlapping components, with revenue streams from one segment often intersecting with others. For instance, fan and spirit merchandise revenue, which falls under the "Youth Equipment and Apparel" segment, may also partially or fully overlap with the "Youth Sports Tourism" and "Event Management" segments.
  • As a result, the market sizes of each segment should not be considered mutually exclusive. There is significant overlap that i was unable to isolate in this release.
  • The key contributors that (IMO) validate that (1) the market exists and (2) it is substantial enough to be included are the ubiquitous existence of such programs found in towns and communities.
  • I personally have founded and continue to administer one in my community. (A case study of this program can be found later in the the report.)
